ERBIL — The Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) on Sunday confirmed that three foreign fighters were killed by Turkey in the battle of Afrin and in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in Deir ez-Zor.
The YPG named the fighters as French national Kendal Breizh (Olivier François Jean Le Clainche), 41, Spanish national Baran Galicia (Samuel Prada Leon), 25, and Dutch national Bahoza (Cezîrê Sjoerd Heeger), 25.
Le Clainche and Leon were killed in the clashes with the Turkish army and its backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) on the Jandairis front in Afrin on February 10, YPG added.
The YPG said that the two men had joined their forces in the summer of 2017 to fight IS.
Heeger was killed fighting the IS in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province on February 12, the statement added.
“We offer our condolences to the families of our martyrs, to their loved ones, and to all the progressive people,” the YPG concluded.
