ERBIL — According to reports, 144 Iranian Kurdish backpack carriers known as Kolbars have been killed or wounded during the first 7 months of 2017.
Hengaw, a website for tacking human rights violations in Iranian Kurdistan, reported that 144 Kolbars have been killed or wounded during the last 7 months. On average, 21 Kolbars are killed or wounded every month.
A total of 47 Kolbars and merchants were killed as a result of direct gunfire of the Iranian security forces and 23 others were killed due to falling off mountains or other accidents.
Meanwhile, 97 Kolbars and merchants were wounded and of those, 53 were shot by the border guards, and 44 others fell off heights and other incidents.
In 2016 a total of 96 Kolabars were killed and wounded and this number has increased in 2017 by 48 only during the first 7 months.
