ERBIL — Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian Kurdish ruling party in the Syrian Kurdistan region (Rojava), arrested two senior members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDP-S) on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the PYD security forces arrested prominent two leaders of the KDP-S in the city of Qamishlo in Rojava and took them to an unknown destination, a source from the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) told BasNews.
“PYD security (Asayish) arrested Nashat Zaza, a member of the KDP-S Politburo and Abdul Rahman Qasim, a member of the Central Committee of the Party in Qamishlo,” the source said adding that they were taken to an unknown location.
The source noted that “The arrests came in response to the attempt by the ENKS to hold its fourth conference in the city of Qamishlo, where PYD armed men forced the participants to end the conference by force.”
The KDP-S, one of the parties under the ENKS political umbrella, is seen by the PYD as a rival for having different political views to the ones of the PYD, considered by Turkey an extension of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
