ERBIL — The media outlets affiliated with he Iranian government are spreading fake news in an attempt to prevent the improving relations between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, said Thamer al-Sabhan, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Gulf Affairs.

“Iran’s media engines began to move to try and stop the Saudi-Iraqi rapprochement by fabricating conversations and spreading fake news, some attributed to me,” Sabhan tweeted on Monday, as reported by al-Arabia.

The claimed Iranian plots come after diplomatic and economic ties between Riyadh and Baghdad has recently witnessed improvements.

Earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi visited Saudi Arabia while US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was also in the Saudi capital, discussing strengthening ties between the sides.
