ERBIL — The United States will continue its military support to Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces, said the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) General Joseph Votel.
The US commander, heading a military and diplomatic delegation, met with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday in Erbil, discussing the latest political and security developments in the region.
Votel also thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for facilitating the military coordinations between the US and Kurdish forces. He also welcomed the ongoing political dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad in hopes of resolving their prolonged disputes.
Barzani commended the role of the US forces in training, equipping, and supporting the Peshmerga forces, hoping that the cooperation between the two sides would continue.
