Former HDP Co-Chair Kemalbay Detained in Ankara

ERBIL — Serpil Kemalbay, former pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair, was arrested in Ankara on Tuesday by the Turkish authorities for allegedly “spreading terrorist propaganda” during her party’s congress, according to a security source. 

The arrest warrant came as part of the investigation over her remarks on Afrin Operation at the party’s third ordinary congress on Sunday.

Kemalbay’s arrest took place in Cankaya district of Ankara after an arrest warrant was issued for her by the Turkish prosecutor’s office, said the source who was quoted by Anadolu Agency.

On Friday, an arrest warrant was issued for Kemalbay and 16 others on charges of opposing Turkey’s Operation dubbed ‘Olive Branch’ on the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in northern Syria.
